Phil Small, PhD

I am a warm, authentic, licensed clinical psychologist  seeking to make sure my clients are treated with dignity and respect. I offer tele-healthcare to individuals and groups who find themselves struggling with emotional and behavioral concerns.  I specialize in working with emerging adults through the lifespan, with a focus on specific life stressors that often characterize specific age or life stages (e.g., college transitions, becoming a new parent, romantic and social relationship difficulties) in addition to challenges related to ADHD, anxiety, and adjustment concerns.

I earned my MA in Psychology and Education from Columbia University and completed my PhD in Clinical Psychology from Arizona State University.  Throughout my top-tier training, I have specialized in providing evidence-based therapy modalities including CBT, interpersonal therapy, behavioral, and exposure-based therapies.  I have worked with children, families, and adults in a multitude of clinical settings, and have published research on socio-developmental outcomes and resilience among affluent youth. I then completed an APA-accredited internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the University of New Hampshire, where I further trained in providing both short- and long-term therapy during sensitive life stages.

Offering short- and long-term therapy, I seek to support meaningful and lasting change by providing strategies to build long-term resilience. I use evidence-based practices including cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, and relational techniques. In order to provide the best care, I coordinate care with other professionals to support treatment adherence, advocacy, and proper triage.
